This is still one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. I’ve walked all over all of these places. Mind the floating grass over patches of bog. Ireland is a place of natural beauty and ancient ❤️
some wild times there!
1996 for Me
Does anyone know if it was John Adair that decorated the castle in all the creepy deer heads and antler furniture ? Looks abit obsessive. Or was it the following owner..
Yes
THIRTY-five orphans who perished in a blaze in Cavan more than 60 years ago were locked into their dormitories as the fire raged because nuns didn't want them seen in their nightgowns.
I was there in 1963 aged 16 - Síle Ní Dúgáin's days - We stayed at the house overlooking a little bridge on the road towards Magheroarty and had a great time! ... My first romance!
Same old story of greed & lack of human compassion to those with so little to their name. In the end the old bastard died just as everyone does, and in the end the estate, while beautiful, is lost from those who worked the land & treasured it as home. We all hope for justice for those who suffer, and I too wish that, altho I am not really a religious person because justice seems so lacking here on earth, and no proof of anything else, much as we yearn for that ! Thanks for your video, it's so necessary to learn the truths of what happened, and try to make things better for future where possible !
Moved to Swords in 1983 and love it still. What a beautiful place it is. Super friendly people and lovely sights when you go walking.
GREAT TALENT .
Ollie Vaughans house been shown 😂
love it \,,/
No titles? No lyrics? She's a bit pitchy.
So sad to hear passing of Michael moran my he rest in peace 🙏
This brings back memories of being a child in the 80s with mid west radio just started as a somewhat pirate station, and playing this song
When the narrator mentions McIIlhenry, was she referring to the McIlhenry who created the Tabasco sauce empire?
❤
Great photos my grandfather was in the video which was a lovely surprise 🙂. They were hard times for sure.
Brilliant. Nice steady rhythm
Jimmy was my great great grandfather just a fun fact
I'm 37 now... I was born in 1985. I lived with my Foster parents in swords I grew up there. Went to the Christian brothers secondary school there and left it in 2003 after my leaving cert. God I have such fond memories of it. The summers I spent there walking the dog through the valley opposite my house in Highfields. I remember the old superquinn beside the garda station there and the extravision and the sweet shop beside it. Ohhhh lord in actually getting emotional here. What a town. I think I may have kissed every girl in the village when I was a teenager lol. I have to go back soon and see how it's changed. I heard the Lord mayors pub closed after 300 years. Wow.... I'll have to go back soon. Thank you for this video ma'am.
Thank you for the amazing pictures of Donegal. My mother ( Leticia Mary Lynch) was born in Dunree, Buncrana Donegal and I remember the many visits to see my Grandparents. It's only now that I appreciate the absolutely stunning beauty of Donegal whilst looking out my window onto dirty old London town. Sadly beauty doesn't create jobs and jobs erode beauty.
The nuns were the criminals who let these poor children die.hope the nuns burn in hell
Nice photos - I have a collection of negatives myself of copies I did for a man in Annagry - men standing with rifles and the barracks burning in the background - wearing the broad black brimmer of the IRA - Crolly chapel - corrugated with dozens of Black Nellies lying along the ditch outside.....! - mostly photos from Dungloe to Gaoth Dobhair...! I was a photographer - I took photos of the Boat - the 2nd one - I actually took photos on it for the Local knitwear factory for a magazine....!
You should make a video like this
Why can’t you PLEASE accompany these great photos with our beautiful Irish music…I have to look without volume as it is too 😮disturbing .
👍
I went to summer irish college in Colaiste Uladh in 1969 and again in 1971. I stayed in Teach Ferries
Is there NO IRISH MUSIC AT ALL//////WHAT IS THIS ABOUT???
Thank you very much!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
My God don't we all wish we could go back cause it would be better than the shit now
My grandmother is from there. She kept a piece of turf wrapped in wax paper for years. Her family thatched roofs and had a farm.
Um dia eu vou visitar,eu sonho com isso
Pity there is no Irish music to accompany the lovely photographs.
Beautiful photos. However so many lived in poverty with the annual emigration to Scotland to harvest potatoes. They may have been content, but they were poor, and accepted it. At least they had a railway line which they don't have now. Music was lovely. It is not necessary to have a tootling on a tin whistle for every Irish event..
Read the book "The Children of the Dead End" by Patrick MacGill to get a better understanding of the place and time.
Is Bernatette Marks still with us?
Yes
@@bernadettemarks5391 Ah. Good to know you're still here.
Thanks for these. A special place. The old Derry to Donegal town train shows how partition cut Donegal off from it's natural hinterland of the rest of Ulster. Life looks like it was pretty tough for people there back in the day. What a change from today with Letterkenny getting a new IT university and all the medical manufacturing companies around there. How did the women keep those long dresses so clean when living on a farm in a thatched cottage?
Hello, everyone. I'm from Germany and I hope to travel to Ireland one day. I especially want to see the small towns, visit the western cliffs and enjoy nature. First of all, I want to drink a Guinness. I know it's everywhere, but when I drink something like that, I want to do it in the country it comes from. hahaha I don't need tropics, turquoise sea and coconut. I hope Ireland is and will be as beautiful as in my dreams.
also visit scotland beutiful country
C est beau l Autriche 😂😂
Muy bueno
Thanks for the photos my grandad mcclintock had a farm in castlefinn love to end my day's in donegaul
Up paddy Kelly rip you a gentleman
It's a fascinating look back at how most Irish people had to live not all that long ago. These thatched cottages were primitive. No disrespect to those who had to live in them. It was a roof, protection from the wind and rain. But, its an indictment of the politics of that time. The " elite " lived in gated estates, had huge town houses in Dublin, multiple servants while most Irish people lived in squalid, smoky cabins hardly fit for animals. Times improved, but those living in tents in Dublin might not agree today either.
I think you hark for a socialist utopia like N Korea
Commercial came in fast at the end - usual English voice selling some scam.Talk about attention grabbing .Thay just can't let things be for what they are , can they?
Anytime in Cavan, I stop on main street and offer a silent prayer.
Thanks for sharing this - unlike one or two others on here I thought the music fitted perfectly.
